1 of 1. Would fetch a good price at a Barrett Jackson auction. Built to carry the Buran shuttle, and thatvworked out well. I have no idea what someone needed to move but it was heavier than an ordinary plane could carry. Possibly stacks of cash for the California elections.

Doesn’t Trump’s ego just fly on AF1 or has it gotten to this point? I bet he got a good deal on the load.

There is one mostly built but in storage until someone pays to finish it and buy it.

The Soviet Union ordered two of the planes for the space program, however only one had been completed by the end of the Soviet space program and collapse of the Soviet Union. The uncompleted airframe and the one completed plane were shelved until it became apparent that the 225 has a unique need in air freight.

The single 225 was put back into service and in the early 2000s Antonov decided to finish the second plane. The second plane would have a more conventional tail, modern avionics , and a tail door. The project has seen so many delays, however China has shown great interest in seeing it finished and an estimated completion date is set for 2019.

No, no. They’re Ukrainian trolls. See? Their passports clearly say “Ukraine”. What? No of course they’re not fake. Why would anyone want to do that?

You know, if only Airbus had been as smart as Boeing, they would have built a freighter version of the 380 with a giant load door (like every self-respecting cargo plane, including the 747, has). But then again, the 747 was developed with cargo in mind, while the A380 was developed for passengers first. That may be its undoing. Or maybe they’ll find an affordable way to rework it, but I don’t think it’s that simple.

380 is just too big for its market. Only, what, 12 airports worldwide can handle it? Boarding up and briefing 5 00 people takes over an hour. Its not profitable to operate in the end. Airbus though did build the Beluga super size freighter. That works.

This is why the 225 is/was in Oakland .
